Myths on Poseidon

Odysseus was on his way home and was caotured by Polyphemus. The one-eyed.Cyclops ate some of his crew members. Odysseus mad a stake, set it on fire and poked Polyphemus in the eye. He prayed to Poseidon that if he was really his farther, he would make Odysseus's joruney home long and full of hardships. And he did.


Once Poseidon and Athena competed  to be the patron god of Athens. Both had to present a gift to  Athenians and which ever gift was more useful will be choosen to be there god. Athena gave them an olive tree. it has many uses from wood to olive oil. Poseidon used his trident to  opened up a salt-water spring, which was beautiful but not very useful. The Athenians choose Athena. Poseidon was so upset that sent water rushing out to flood the plains outside Athens as punishment.

According to traditions, he was the first person to breath life in a horse on earth.
He used the trident to  shatter rocks, to call forth or subdue storms, or shake the Earth. This one of his main symbols. It was he's weapon of choice.
A dolphin is a sea creature and he is the God of the sea.

Bulls were a sacrificed to him in The Odyessey. Also, some people say because it was accidentally created while he was trying to make a horse.

 He controlled the waves and he got this power by choosing to rule over the sea.

Poseidon's Family Tree



His parents are Titans Cronus and Rhea.
Even though his father swallowed him, his brother Zeus, saved him.
He has five siblings Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Zeus, and Hades.
He is ancestor to the most fearsome monsters in Greek muthology.
Poseidon had an unstable love life but fathered many children.
He had three offspring with his wife Amphirite, the sea nymph.
One was a merman and a sea god named Triton.
Also, he had two children with his sister Demeter.
A divine horse Arion and a daughter named Despoina.
Poseidon and a beautiful woman named Medusa had two children.
A winged horse Pegasus and a son Chrysaor.
Gaia gave Poseidon two kids also.
Antaeus, a giant and Charybdis, a sea monster.
One of his most famous offspring would have to be the one-eyed Cyclops Polyphemus.

Posiden!


Poseidon, also known as Neptune by the Romans,  Enosichtho, and Hippios.
God of the sea and Lord of the horse.
He is represented as an extremely powerful, with a violent and vengeful disposition god.
